Another splendid event in full traditional format was held at the Appleton Village Hall on 29th January. In a change from the normal arrangement of hiring an external caterer, Cathy Mills undertook the mammoth task of cooking everything in house. She excelled and everyone enjoyed the meal.
The evening was chaired by Maureen Aitken. Dixon Halliday said the Selkirk Grace. Tom Hanson delivered the Address to the Haggis with his usual relish and panache. Our guest speakers, Derek Carnegie and Terry Winrow, proposed light hearted toasts to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns and to the Lassies while Freda Hughes replied with quiet authority on behalf of the gentler sex! Musical entertainment was provided by Elspeth Hanson who played Burns on the Fiddle before Irvine and Sandra McClevy, Brian Syme and Hilary Adams led the gathering in community singing.
